Community Outreach for Tung Chung Line Extension
The Tung Chung Line Extension is one of the projects recommended in the “Railway Development Strategy 2014”. The project comprises of the construction of Tung Chung East Station*, between Sunny Bay Station and Tung Chung Station, and extending the Tung Chung Line from the existing Tung Chung Station westward by some 1.3 km to the Tung Chung West Station*, which is to be located next to Yat Tung Estate. The new railway will provide Tung Chung residents with convenient and time-saving railway services, facilitating the sustainable development of the community.
In order to raise awareness towards the project and listen to the community, the team launched a series of promotional activities in the community in 2021.
Project promotion and engagement activities
The team launched a roving truck exhibition between July and August 2021, touring around Tung Chung and South Lantau to introduce the project to the residents and public, which kickstarted the promotion of project.
The team then sustained the efforts with distribution of promotional tent cards, posters and souvenirs in the community via local NGOs, management office of housing estates and shops. Prominent posters were also displayed in Tung Chung and Sunny Bay Stations.
The team has also held several briefing sessions on the project, as well as attended District Council and Legislative Council meetings to introduce the project and listen to the views of stakeholders
To provide members of the public an easy access to project information, the team has set up a virtual information centre for Tung Chung Line Extension, a first for MTR new railway projects. Visitors can visit and learn about the project anytime and anywhere. They can also share any feedback electronically.

To highlight the positioning of the project as a Community Railway, a promotional video was produced and aired on MTR in-train TVs and Youtube channel, explaining the new impetus for development the Tung Chung Line Extension project will bring to the community.
