Build a Better Tung Chung with the Community
Community Liaison Group
In keeping with the Tung Chung Line Extension’s position as a “Community Railway”, the project team has been keeping close communication with the community since the planning and design stage. Before works commencement, the Corporation formed a Community Liaison Group (CLG) for direct communication with the relevant stakeholders. The first two meetings were held in March and July respectively with representatives from nearby residential and commercial properties, local organisations, schools, etc.
School talk
To furnish youngsters with knowledge about the Tung Chung Line Extension and other new railway developments, the Corporation joined hands with Lingnan University and launched the “New Railway Projects Youth Ambassadors Programme”, under which Lingnan University’s students and staff of the Corporation visited schools and community centres in Tung Chung. They introduced information about the Tung Chung Line Extension to more than 500 primary and secondary students in Tung Chung. The young ladies and gentlemen were very keen to ask questions about the project, and enthusiastically anticipate all the new railway projects.
Community Connection
The Corporation always respects the rural traditions. Before works commencement, the Corporation held Bai Sun ceremonies with local villagers and stakeholders, wishing for a smooth completion of the project.
During the construction, the project team will actively maintain communication with residents and take part in community activities to strengthen bonding with the community.
Tung Chung Line Extension Information Centre
The Corporation provides project information to residents via various channels. The Tung Chung Line Extension Information Centre is in Ma Wan Chung village, providing project information to Ma Wan Chung and Tung Chung residents, as well as the public. The Corporation invited a school in Tung Chung and a local artist to create beautiful murals outside the centre. Several community activities were also held at the centre and we will explore more collaborations with the community, looking forward to having more local residents to join our events in the future!
