The Tung Chung Line Extension (TUE) project has commenced smoothly as scheduled, with the support of local community leaders and residents. As the Mid-Autumn Festival symbolises the reunion of loved ones, the TUE team took the opportunity during the festive season to go into the community, send blessings to stakeholders, and thank them for their support to the project.

Brightening up the community
Before the full moon of the Mid-Autumn Festival, the TUE team visited the Salvation Army Lam Butt Chung Memorial School and Tung Chung Catholic School to craft lanterns with over 400 primary school students, and decorate them with blessings for the community, creating these unique pieces of art. These playful lanterns conveyed the joy of the festival and also carried the expectations of the next generations towards the bright future of the Tung Chung community. The project team, the contractor and village volunteers then decorated the streets of Ma Wan Chung village with these colourful lanterns. This was followed by a lighting ceremony on the evening of 22 September, where the achievements were shared with the neighbourhood, uniting the community.

Many of the residents shared photos on social media about how the decorated streets have become an iconic landmark and a hot spot in Tung Chung, attracting people from outside the district to visit the village.

Bringing festive blessings to communities
Apart from beautifying the local community, the TUE team also engaged with residents by supporting a Mid-Autumn Festival event organised by the Harmonious Community Wellness Association, and together with Mr Eric Kwok, a member of Islands District Council, over 500 goodie bags were distributed to the residents, spreading festive joy throughout the community. The event also allowed the TUE team to meet face-to-face with residents and let them gain a better understanding of the project progress, and the benefits brought by the new railway development to the district.

The TUE team visited Yat Tung Estate on 22 September to join in the distribution of goodies bags together with Mr Eric Kwok, a member of the Islands District Council (left photo, 3rd right) and volunteers from the Harmonious Community Wellness Association.

Active support and participation in rural traditions
The Corporation has always valued and respected rural traditions. The TUE team continued to support the annual celebrations of Tung Chung Heung, the Hau Wong Birthday celebration, organised by the Tung Chung Rural Committee. Project colleagues participated in various large-scale activities, during which the team exchanged views with the villagers, and community members, demonstrating their commitment to the rural community, enhancing its ties and understanding with the community.
